How does the new VONG compare to its predecessors?

Oh, joy! It’s that time of the year again. DynaVap traditionally announces one or more new versions of their prized battery-free and open-flame pen vaporizers every year around the month of April. A smart move, knowing 420-day is just around the corner.

Then again, the people behind the now-iconic vaporizer brand are a smart bunch indeed, the company being mostly comprised of vape-fanatics and engineers.

This year, however, these vape-nerds have outdone themselves with not just releasing one new model of their exceptional hand-held vaporizers, but three!

DynaVap has not only updated the Vong but also their flagship VapCap ‘M’ as well as the Omni. Let’s go and check ’em out and see what new features these vapes will bring.

For those who aren’t familiar with the DynaVap family

In this review, I will be focusing on the new 2021 Vong. A word of note to those of you who’ve never tried or owned a DynaVap vaporizer before, in this review I’ll be paying extra attention to the updates and changes of this new Vong compared to its direct predecessor; the OmniVonG: Hydra XL. So, if you’re new to the Dynaverse, I highly suggest you read this DynaVap introduction article to see what all the fuss is about. But, know this; no matter which version of DynaVap vaporizer you have or use, they’re all excellent.

For those who are dying to know what new features this updated version of the OmniVonG: Hydra XL has to offer, let’s get right into it.

The look and feel of the new DynaVap Omni 2021

“Wow! That is one solid looking slug of metal”. Those were (verbatim) the first words I uttered when I saw this new iteration in the DynaVap Vong line.
And it really is SOLID. It feels reassuringly heavy in the hand and because the mouthpiece is now permanently attached to the body has a robustness none of the older NONAVonG’s or HydraVonG’s had.

This same sentiment of robustness translates in the esthetics of the new Vong (from now on, DynaVap will be calling it simply The Vong). I immediately got a distinct Steampunk vibe from this portable pen vaporizer. It looks like something that belongs in the toolkit of a WW1 army engineer.

I fell in love with this new look at first glance, let me tell ya. But, a word of caution; for this review, I had the honour of spending two hours with, what I later discovered was a design prototype. Not that it makes any functional difference but the final design of the retail version of the new Vong looks like this:

Handling and performance of the DynaVap 2021 Omni

As you might know, the entirety of the Vong line (past and present) was designed to be used with glass bongs, bubblers, dab rigs and any other glass piece with a 14mm fitting.

This still holds true for this new Vong design, with the added benefit of the now permanently affixed mouthpiece being tapered to fit 10mm female fittings like with the Oasis Bubbler.

The permanently affixed mouthpiece of the 2021 Vong is tapered to fit any 10mm glass piece, but also fits snugly in any 14mm female fitting.

Or, if you don’t feel the need to cool down your vapour with water, you can still use the Vong as is, directly drawing on the mouthpiece.

Actually, I got the impression that the flavour of the cannabis I was vaping on during this review session — expertly grown Gelato 45, for those who’d like to know — was slightly better when I took a hit from the mouthpiece.

Yet, the real power of the Vong lies in combination with glass. And clouds! Thick, milky clouds of flavourful vapour. This 2021 Vong is an absolute must-have for true cloud-chasers.

Even me, as someone who prefers flavour hits over thick vapour hits, had no trouble milking up the glass piece I was reviewing the Vong with — an old-school Magic Flight Orbiter with a Herborizer stem.

The proof is in the pudd…euhm… glass. Now everyone can chuck huge clouds with ease using the Vong in a bong.

Most of this cloud-chucking power is due to the fact that the Vong is now equipped with a dedicated titanium tip.

Titanium, as a material, has great heat-transfer properties and with the Vong, this translates into better heat retention in the tip and allows for more cloud production.

The verdict on the DynaVap 2021 Vong

I’m exceedingly happy to have reviewed the new DynaVap 2021 Vong. I think it’s my new favourite DynaVap — besides the 2016 Titanium Omni. Please DynaVap, bring that one back, even if it is only in a limited run!

The raw, robust look and the heavy but reassuring weight and the excellent performance when it comes to vapour and flavour production are so far ahead of any of this Vong’s predecessors that I can’t wait to pick it up for myself.
